Trek Fuel+ EX 5 Gen 2 – Lightweight and powerful e-full-suspension bike for trails and touring
Trek's lightweight e-bike enters its second generation: Fuel EXe becomes Fuel+ EX. But it's not just the name of the model series that has changed. With the TQ HPR60, the US manufacturer has given the all-round full-suspension bike a slightly more powerful motor and a larger battery. 580 watt hours are enough to master even longer tours in the mountains. This shifts the Fuel+'s range of use from trail bike to all-mountain. But thanks to the variable rear suspension travel (145–160 mm), you don't have to commit to one thing, but can adapt your Fuel+ exactly to your preferred riding style. But what exactly is a lightweight e-bike? The idea behind it is that a lightweight e-bike requires less drive energy due to the lower mass to be accelerated. This allows the rider to use the battery-saving drive modes more often. The reward is a playful riding experience that is close to that of a bike without an electric drive.
In the EX 5 version, the Fuel+ comes with an Alpha NEXT Platinum aluminium frame,
equipped with reliable RockShox/X-Fusion suspension. Solid mid-range components are used: at the heart of the drivetrain is the worry-free Shimano Deore 1x12 gear system with a wide gear range from 10 to 51 teeth on the cassette. Hydraulic Shimano 4-piston disc brakes provide plenty of stopping power. In addition, there are numerous in-house Bontrager parts such as tubeless-ready wheels and grippy Team tyres.
TQ HPR60 – one of the lightest motors on the market
German manufacturer TQ has been causing a stir since the introduction of its motors. A characteristic feature is the round, compact design, which makes the motor look like an oversized bottom bracket. It couldn't be more inconspicuous! This is made possible by a clever pin ring gear that rotates around the drive shaft. Compared to its predecessor, the HPR50, the HPR60 gives you a little more punch on the trail with 10 Newton metres more torque. The drive's operation also sets standards in the lightweight construction scene: only the remote control is located on the left handlebar. The display is perfectly protected and integrated into the front part of the top tube. There you have the most important riding data directly in view: riding mode, range, speed and battery charge level. In line with the latest technology, the smartphone can be connected to the drive via Bluetooth. The TQ e-bike app offers, on reques
