Even with the slightly cheaper-to-manufacture OCLV 500 Series frame, the Émonda is still one of the lightest production road bikes on the market. Thanks to the consistently used carbon components such as wheels, seatpost and handlebar / stem unit, the SL 7 easily breaks the 8-kilo barrier. In addition, you can enjoy all the benefits of improved aerodynamics, which were the focus of the development of the new Émonda generation. The result is a road racing machine that sets standards with its climbing capabilities. And lets you fly over the asphalt on flat passages. Whether in a race, in a direct duel with competitors. Or on a tour over famous Alpine passes. The work was done in the wind tunnel, together with the pro riders of the Trek-Segafredo team. The challenge was to find the optimal ratio of weight to aerodynamics. In addition to the aforementioned Bontrager carbon parts, the Émonda comes in the SL 7 version with the Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic shifting and braking group. The precision and speed of this gear is simply outstanding.
The OCLV Carbon developed by Trek has been a household name on the scene for years. There are different series for the bike classes, from mountain bike to road bike. The 500 Series variant is slightly less complex in construction than the razor-thin 800 OCLV. Which makes the Émonda SL 7 just 400 grams heavier. The special thing about the new Émonda frames, however, is their sophisticated aerodynamics, which the U.S. manufacturer was able to realize under the weight aspect. Because usually aerodynamically shaped tubes require more material, thus also weigh heavier. The developers succeeded here in the feat of laying the layup at the crucial points so that the frame gets the necessary stiffness and strength despite its feather weight. In addition, the Émonda SL carbon fork with about 350 grams. Another property of carbon is to be able to absorb the peaks of vibrations. Studies show that the gain in comfort makes the rider tire less quickly than on an aluminum frame. So you can pedal longer and more efficiently.
