Trek Émonda ALR 5 - Climbing racer with a budget-friendly aluminium frame

Does it always have to be carbon? No. Especially in the price range of the Émonda ALR, a racer with an aluminium frame is, in our opinion, the better choice on balance. The main argument is quite simple: the often-cited weight advantage of carbon bikes is marginal here. With the Émonda ALR, you not only get higher quality and therefore more durable equipment, but also a frame with the identical H1.5 geometry of the Trek Segafredo professional racing team. You can also enjoy all the benefits of the improved aerodynamics that were the focus of the development of the current Émonda generation. The result is a road racing machine that literally lets you fly over the tarmac. And sets standards in the mountains with its climbing capabilities.

The ALR 5 version of the Émonda comes with the recently revised Shimano 105 component group, which offers 2 x 12 gears and first-class shifting quality. No wonder, as the technology was adopted 1:1 from the top Ultegra and Dura-Ace groupsets. Robust and reliable, the Shimano 105 has earned itself an excellent reputation in the mid-range segment to this day. The hydraulic Shimano disc brakes decelerate confidently in all weathers and their ease of servicing is legendary. A practical detail on the side: thanks to the Blendr stem system developed by Trek, lights, computers and other accessories can be easily attached to the cockpit. No more clunky clamps and ugly cable ties!

Trek - frame construction at the highest level

The US manufacturer Trek was one of the first manufacturers in the world to use aluminium in frame construction back in the 1980s. You benefit from a huge amount of expertise that makes Trek frames the best on the market to this day. The Émonda ALR 5 uses 300 Series Alpha aluminium, from which special tube profiles are created using the so-called hydroforming process. This shape ensures an optimum ratio between stiffness and weight. The frames are also characterised by organically flowing tube connections, as the weld seams are invisible. Added to this are details such as internally routed cables and a rigid quick-release system for the wheels. Trek combines the aluminium frame with a lightweight carbon fork. Thanks to its molecular properties, the carbon fibre material dampens vibrations.
