Trek Domane SL 7 AXS 1X
Under the motto “less is more,” Trek has completely redesigned the fifth generation of the Domane. The goal: a lightweight and uncomplicated endurance race bike that delivers plenty of speed on the road while also performing confidently when the route takes you onto gravel. The frame has been significantly slimmed down, making it around 300 grams lighter together with the fork compared to its predecessor. The result is direct responsiveness and agile handling. Road riders will love the feeling of the bike surging forward with every pedal stroke. At the same time, the Domane offers such a comfortable riding position that even the longest rides never feel long enough.
But where does gravel come into play? First, there is the generous tire clearance at the rear triangle and fork: the Domane can accommodate tires up to 40 mm wide. This makes perfect sense, as tires with the right pressure can often absorb vibrations and impacts more effectively than complicated suspension technologies. A second comfort feature is the new round seatpost, whose natural compliance helps absorb vibrations from the road. The modern, uncomplicated version of the Domane SL 7 does away with the front derailleur and instead features a single chainring combined with a 13-speed cassette. Despite the simpler setup, the overall gear range remains impressively broad, as there are no overlapping gears. The SRAM Force XPLR AXS rear derailleur is controlled wirelessly from the shift/brake lever, delivering exceptionally precise and fast gear changes.
The Domane SL 7 AXS 1X is equally at home on long-distance road rides and bikepacking adventures with light luggage, while giving you the freedom to include the occasional gravel detour along the way. Powerful SRAM Force hydraulic disc brakes provide confident stopping performance, while the lightweight Bontrager Aeolus Pro 51 carbon wheels deliver quick and responsive acceleration. Another highlight is the specially shaped riser handlebar, whose ergonomic profile provides a noticeably more relaxed riding position.
500 Series OCLV Carbon – The Perfect Balance of Price and Performance
Trek’s proprietary OCLV Carbon technology has been firmly established in the cycling world for many years. Different carbon series are used across Trek’s bike categories, from mountain bikes to road bikes, with each series offering different levels of performance, quality and price. For the 500 Series, Trek uses a more cost-efficient carbon material with a higher fiber content, making it slightly heavier than the carbon used in its top-tier series. All OCLV frames are characterized by extremely precise shaping and placement of the carbon fiber layers. Tight manufacturing tolerances ensure that components can be fitted precisely and directly to the carbon structure. Additional bonded or pressed-in bearing cups are therefore unnecessary, helping to reduce weight. Every OCLV frame undergoes an extensive testing program in which the material is evaluated for fatigue resistance, impact resistance and structural durability.
