More than 15 years ago Schwalbe had a great litter with the first Fat Albert. Not only was it the first 2.4" wide tyre designed for all-round use, but for a long time it also set the standard for traction-strong tyres with which even technically gifted mountain bikers could dare to ride on increasingly difficult trails. This first Fat Albert was correspondingly popular at that time.

Since then the technology of the mountain bike, but also the way they are used, have developed rapidly in many ways. The suspension travel has become longer, the chassis more sophisticated, the wheels larger. Today's bikes allow much higher speeds than ever before, especially downhill. But one fundamental insight has not changed: Tyres are still the most important component of every bike. The rest of the bike can be as good as it gets, but without the right amount of potent tyres you have no chance in demanding terrain. Bikers who are looking for challenges on increasingly difficult trails, supported by highly developed suspension systems, quickly notice that tyres optimised for low rolling resistance and low weight limit their abilities.
