Orbea has completely redesigned its hardtail classic. This can be recognised at first glance from the frame, which has a distinctive kink above the bottom bracket. Thanks to the X-Fader technology, vibrations are absorbed in conjunction with the rear triangle. As usual with Orbea, the letter M in the model name means that it is a carbon frame. Light and agile, the Alma whizzes over the trails and round the tightest bends. Ambitious cross-country riders will love its explosive acceleration and razor-sharp handling.
The M-Pro version of the Alma is the first choice for sporty riders and competition use. The RockShox SID SL Select suspension fork, which is synonymous with a race suspension fork, speaks for itself. Light and stiff at the same time, and equipped with a sensitively tunable Devon Air air chamber. The drivetrain is state-of-the-art: the wireless Sram GX Eagle Transmission shifts the 12 gears as precisely as Swiss clockwork. Orbea combines the Sram drivetrain on the M-Pro with Shimano Deore disc brakes that are 100 per cent reliable. Another highlight are the lightweight OQUO Mountain Performance wheels. They have asymmetrical rims for even spoke tension and are generally characterised by excellent workmanship. Pirelli Scorpion Sport tyres with a width of 2.40 inches provide a noticeable comfort bonus.
Many manufacturers have already tried their hand at rear suspension damping for hardtail frames. Orbea is now taking a new, revolutionary approach with the X-Fader system. The central component is the specially shaped seat tube, which can absorb vibrations in a vertical direction. The extremely sloping top tube, which incorporates a long seat post, is also crucial for damping. After thousands of kilometres of test rides with prototypes, Orbea has succeeded in finding the right balance between flex and stiffness. The result: a few millimetres of optimally tuned compliance that ensures smooth handling and uncompromising performance. Quite simply, you can ride faster, harder and further on the X-Fader frame.
