Austrian premium manufacturer KTM is an expert when it comes to off-road two-wheelers. So it was only logical that the cross specialists expanded their range a few years ago to include a new, special gravel bike line. After all, gravel biking is far more than just a trend. In fact, the gravel bike is the most versatile type of bike. You can ride it on almost any road, from asphalt to gravel. Even forest paths and trails can be ridden, whether sporty or more enjoyable. KTM is launching two model series, one with an aluminium frame and one with a carbon frame. Starting with the X-Strada 20, the aluminium models come with a lightweight carbon fork. In both series you will find different equipment variants for every budget.
All KTM Carbon Gravel models come with modern 1-speed drivetrains, i.e. with a chainring on the crank. On the X-Strada Elite it is a sensible mix of Shimano GRX components to keep the budget in check. 1 x 11 gears are available, which can be shifted smoothly. Off-road, single-speed drivetrains have a definite advantage, as you tend to shift more often under load. And this works much better with a rear derailleur than with a front derailleur, which has to operate two chainrings with a taut chain. In addition, single drives save weight. The service-friendly GRX disc brakes bite reliably in all weather and terrain conditions. The equipment is completed with KTM Parts, which are also characterised by smooth functioning.
First and foremost, carbon is significantly lighter than aluminium. The scales speak for themselves: Thanks to carbon and the slimmed-down 1-speed drivetrain, between one and two kilos can be saved on the total weight, depending on the model. When developing the carbon frame, KTM opted for a moderately sporty geometry so that even longer tours are fun. The rear triangle and fork blades of the carbon models are wide enough to accommodate tyres up to 45 millimetres wide. Threaded eyelets in the appropriate positions allow two water bottles or other accessories to be mounted. In addition, a LowRider luggage rack can be attached to the fork.
