What do you get when one of the most renowned road bike manufacturers builds a mountain bike? Exactly: Nothing other than a high-end machine uncompromisingly trimmed for sporty CrossCountry biking. With the ZHT-5, Cervélo has now presented its first hardtail MTB in the company's long history. And it promises a lot. A lot. The frame weight of around 800 grams alone makes connoisseurs click their tongues. Another look at the delicate yet powerful silhouette confirms that this bike is fast. It has to be, after all, the goal of the new Pro Team is to stir up the World Cup properly. In this version, the ZHT-5 is equipped with the GX Eagle AXS drivetrain from US manufacturer Sram. The wireless transmission of the switching commands ensures extraordinarily precise and fast gear changes. The modern drive is combined with reliable Level TL disc brakes and a lightweight Race Face wheelset. As a suspension fork nothing else comes into question in a bike of this class, as a RockShox SID SL Select. 100 millimeters of travel is enough for any CrossCountry rider.
Carbon has superior damping properties and is thus able to absorb vibrations. Best conditions for the construction of a hardtail bike. The frame and geometry were developed in collaboration with Dutch CrossCountry pro Milan Vader. The goals were clearly set: The ZHT-5 should be light and agile, and stiff enough to convert every start into propulsion without loss. But it should also be fun to ride! This is ensured by the sporty-comfortable seating position and a relatively flat steering angle of 69.4 degrees. The short rear end guarantees extremely good traction when starting, but still offers space for tires up to 2.4 inches wide. The factory-fitted voluminous Maxxis Recon Race thus definitely tickle some comfort out of the chassis. Our tuning tip: A retractable seatpost improves the downhill performance enormously.
