Garmin has set new standards with its indoor cycling subsidiary Tacx. The NEO 3M smart trainer is the result of years of experience in the development of home trainers and cycling accessories. What began in a small bicycle shop in the Netherlands has now developed into one of the biggest success stories in the bicycle industry.
Thanks to a revised motor and redesigned magnets, the NEO 3M Smart has become significantly quieter, more robust and more resistant. The NEO 3M can now deliver up to 2200 watts and brake with 260N. Thanks to the redesign, inclines of up to 25% can now also be simulated. The trainer can be set up without calibration and still reliably provides measured values - such as power, speed and cadence - with a deviation of less than 1%.
The NEO 3M Smart also utilises a dynamic inertia simulation. This controls the inertia (up to 125kg or 275.6 lbs) and balances the weight, speed and angle of inclination to create a realistic riding experience. The Road Feel System can also simulate different surfaces such as gravel, cobblestones and more. So that the NEO 3M can also realistically simulate a downhill run, it requires an external power source with 110 to 240 volts. The mains plug for this is included in the scope of delivery.
Another new feature of the NEO 3M Smart is the integrated motion plates. These plates make it possible to tilt the bike during training just like on the road, thus ensuring an even more pleasant and natural riding experience.
Nowadays, smart trainers are practically required to be as compatible as possible. The NEO 3M Smart is not only compatible with training apps such as TrainerRoad and Zwift via Bluetooth and ANT+, it also offers you the option of combining it with several devices at the same time. The advantage of the Tacx trainers is the connection with Garmin, because if you have a Garmin bike computer, you can also save your ride data there. You can also use more than 100 high-quality videos in the Tacx training app for even more riding fun. If you don't want to use these features, simply use the autonomy mode. When the NEO 3M is not connected, it simulates riding on flat roads while the resistance increases due to a higher riding speed.
The NEO 3M Smart is compatible with all common shifting systems (Campagnolo, Shimano, Sram) and is supplied with a pre-installed 11-speed cassette. The home trainer is therefore not compatible with a Shimano or Sram 12-speed shifting system as standard. For a Sram, Shimano, Campagnolo 12-speed cassette, a Tacx freewheel body must be purchased seperately.
The NEO 3M is designed for all common axle systems. The adapter kit allows the home trainer to be used with a 5mm quick release as well as with 12mm thru axles with a maximum width of 148mm.
