The Shimano M8100 cassette is ideal for 1x mountain bike drivetrains, but can also be combined with 2x drivetrains. With gear ratios adapted to the rider, it offers optimal cadence control on a wide range of MTB terrains. With the BEAM SPIDER construction, the new Shimano Deore M8100 12-speed cassette saves weight while increasing SHIMANO's MTB gear range by another gear. With SHIMANO's new MICRO SPLINE freehub body and HYPERGLIDE+ tooth profile, the 10-51T cassette delivers advanced shifting performance. The sprockets with teeth 11-45 are made of steel, while the largest sprocket with 51 teeth, which is usually under the lowest load, is made of aluminium. The biggest advantage of this is the weight saving. The cassette therefore weighs only 470g in the 11-51t configuration. Another feature of Shimano and their high-gear cassettes is that the 5 lower sprockets can be dismantled. This means that individually worn sprockets can be replaced without having to buy a new cassette. This saves the environment and resources.

Hyperglide+ technology

The specially shaped HYPERGLIDE sprockets feature special tooth profiles as well as specifically positioned climbing aids that optimise chain guidance during shifting. This enables fast, precise shifting. The redesigned cassette and chain of the HYPERGLIDE+ drivetrain promote the next generation of MTB riding by improving speed, shifting efficiency and smoothness on any terrain. Better chain engagement, stronger grip and smoother pedalling feel provide more power and confidence on fast-changing terrain. Upshifts and downshifts in both directions have been made more defined for better acceleration. The ultra-efficient drivetrain with smoother power transmission increases comfort, cadence and thus reduces stress in the knee joints. A wide range of gears, cassette options and choice of single or double front chainring support a variety of MTB riding styles, abilities and preferences. HYPERGLIDE+ helps riders seamlessly manoeuvre rough trails by reducing pedal kickback and cutting shifting times by a third.

Microspline

Microspline is a new freewheel developed by Shimano. It is the only one compatible with Shimano 12-speed cassettes. The lower weight and shorter design with simultaneous increase of the freewheel teeth make it possible to use 10-speed sprockets. Furthermore, wear is reduced because the larger contact surface ensures more precise power transmission.
