Kona Shonky - At home on the pumptrack, in the bike park and at the dirt jump

Modern playgrounds for the bikers of the younger generation are sprouting up all over the cities of the world, from pumptracks to bike parks. That's exactly why Kona built the Shonky. Because this terrain requires a bike that flits agilely around the curves, can be playfully directed in the air and can take something when landing. Only an absolute specialist can fulfill this task. So special that a dirt bike is not suitable for biking in the conventional sense, i.e. covering distances off-road.

The technology: Due to the forces acting on it, the heart of the Shonky is a frame made of CroMoly steel, built in the classic diamond shape. To avoid weakening stability by drilling holes in the tubes, the hydraulic line to the Tektro rear brake runs along the outside of the top tube. Attention: A dirt bike also has only this one brake! The drive is a singlespeed ensemble with freewheel. The rear wheel can be moved in the dropouts so that the chain can be correctly put under tension. For the landings, a dirt bike requires maximum damping. This is ensured by a Manitou suspension fork at the front and fat Maxxis tires on extremely stable 26-inch wheels.

Kona bikes - cult and quality from the USA

The manufacturer Kona is one of the pioneers at the beginning of the MTB boom in the eighties and nineties. The brand stands for fine mountain bikes with a high play and fun factor. Kona bikes also set visual accents with their unique design to this day. Kona was one of the first manufacturers of frames with "sloping top tube design", i.e. with a distinctive top tube that slopes backwards. This design continues to set standards to this day.
