The German manufacturer Focus is one of the top brands on the market when it comes to cross and gravel sports. Traditions and many years of experience from the professional camp come together in the Atlas gravel bike, which was launched with the 6 series based on an aluminium frame. With the 8 series made of carbon, Focus is raising the level yet again. But it's not just the weight saving of around 1.7 kilos that makes the Atlas an outstanding gravel bike. Rarely before have you seen such innovative mounting points for bikepacking accessories on a carbon frame.
The main frame offers space for three bottle cages and a bag on the top tube, which is even supplied as standard. If required, lowrider bags can be fitted to the carbon fork. Focus presents a really clever solution for transporting luggage on the main frame: the optional Adventure Rack sits on the rear stays and can hold two panniers. This means that all additional weight sits low on the bike and close to the centre. This ensures a natural riding feel and agility, even when you get out of the saddle. The new, tidy cockpit with Focus handlebars and the completely internal C.I.S. cable system also catches the eye. The stem can be retrofitted with a holder for a computer, light or even an action cam.
Version 8.7 of the Atlas comes with Shimano GRX RX600 2 x 12 drivetrain, complemented by GRX disc brakes. Shimano's gravel components work reliably and precisely, even under fire from dust and mud. The tightly suspended rear derailleur absorbs vibrations and keeps the chain under tension. Thanks to a shorter head tube, the geometry of the new carbon frame is somewhat sportier than that of the aluminium 6 series. A perfect blend of comfort and stiffness. The DT Swiss wheels are also uncompromisingly trimmed for gravel use. They ensure stability with the Road Boost thru-axle system. Versatile: The frame and fork of the Atlas offer space for tyres up to 45 mm wide. It is also possible to fit robust 650B wheels instead of the standard 700c wheels. This means that this gravel bike can almost compete with a cross-country mountain bike. It is certainly faster.
