Focus Atlas 8.0 - The premium model of the gravel series with carbon frame

The German manufacturer Focus is one of the top brands on the market when it comes to cross and gravel sports. Traditions and many years of experience from the professional camp come together in the Atlas gravel bike, which was launched with the 6 series based on an aluminium frame. Focus raises the level again with the 8 series made of carbon fibre. But it is not just the weight saving of around 1.7 kilos that makes the Atlas an outstanding gravel bike.

Rarely before have such innovative mounting points for bikepacking accessories been seen on a carbon frame. The main frame offers space for three bottle cages and a bag on the top tube, which is even supplied as standard. If required, lowrider bags can be fitted to the carbon fork. Focus presents a really clever solution for transporting luggage on the main frame: the optional Adventure Rack sits on the rear stays and can hold two panniers. This means that all additional weight sits low on the bike and close to the centre. This ensures a natural riding feel and agility, even when you get out of the saddle. The new, tidy cockpit with Easton carbon handlebars and the completely internal C.I.S. cable system also catches the eye. The stem can be retrofitted with a holder for a computer, light or even an action cam.

The future is now - shifting with Sram Rival eTap AXS and Classified Powershift

The highlight of the Atlas 8.0 is the modern 1 x 12 drivetrain with Sram Rival eTap AXS electric shifting. A gentle sideways touch on the shift/brake lever is all it takes to engage the gears with 100 per cent precision, even on bumpy gravel tracks. There are no more dirty, stiff cables, as the commands are transmitted to the rear derailleur by radio. The geometry of the new carbon frame is somewhat sportier than that of the aluminium 6 series thanks to a shorter head tube. A perfect compromise between comfort and stiffness. The seat post and handlebars, also made of carbon, are a logical addition to the Atlas 8.0.

The high-quality and robust DT-Swiss GR 1600 wheels are uncompromisingly designed for gravel use. The DT-Swiss hubs also feature the new Classified Powershift System, a wireless 2-speed drivetrain integrated into the rear hub, which combines the advantages of 1- and 2-speed drivetrains and thus enables a wider gear range without a front derailleur on the front chainring. It is operated via a small lever on the handlebars, which can be used to increase or decrease the gear ratio at lightning speed. The rims are also prepared for tubeless operation. The Atlas 8.0 is even so versatile that robust 650B wheels with wide tyres can be fitted as an option for extended off-road tours. So cross-country mountain bikers can dress warmly!
